When planning a coastal inspired bedroom for a customer, I typically start with a palette of both tone and texture that is honestly reflective of the coastal ambience and the customer. Here in Southern California, the coastal areas are plentiful and varied, with colors like blue, green, creme, grey and even yellow and orange, also textures like sand, sea grass, reeds and driftwood. Coastal interiors are hands‐down my favorite interiors to plan as there is such a broad variety of units, textures also colors available to re‐visualize and pervade into the residence and I do favor to utilize the energy of recommendation when planning a coastal home, slightly than a literal or 'kitschy' interpretation.

Coastal‐inspired spaces are light and spacious and elicit an easy, care‐free feeling whether casual or formal, so we desire to retain the eye moving in the room by enabling it to travel freely around the space. Consider utilizing glass‐topped tables, furniture with legs and see‐through backs to retain the eye moving around the space, which would be viewed as bigger and more extensive than if you incorporate heavy, block‐like sofas and other furniture. If you do use visually heavier furniture, retain it to one or two key pieces.

Utilizing reflective accessories also finishes like mirrors would also help move light around the space. Any room that is lighter is also usually viewed as being more open, airy and, usually, cheerful! If contemplating usage of some of the shadier coastal colors, like grey or green, keep them as accent colors or use in just one area to lessen the impact on the light, coursing feeling typical in a coastal‐inspired room.

When contemplating wall tone, use a tone of soft white or a light tone of a real color. White would assist move light around the space, whether it’s from a natural source like a window, or from a light fixture. A light tone of a color would equip a similar effect. If you desire to create the space shadier, this can always be proficient through drapery, but I have discovered it best to have the choice to go from light to shady through the simple pull on a drapery panel.

Utilizing stripes is another way to retain the eye moving and pervade a room with a familiar coastal design unit. Utilizing stripes on the walls or drapery would assist make any space look bigger by picture the eye up and into the room, also providing to the open, airy feeling.

Keeping these tips in mind won’t only help you start planning a coastal‐inspired bedroom, it would assist you make a retreat you could relish for many years to come.
